♦ The Setting : Lumiose City
The adventure takes place in Lumiose City, a major metropolis in the Kalos region—a location that also appeared in “Pokémon X” and “Pokémon Y”. As the city pursues the goal of coexistence between people and Pokémon, it is pushing forward with an urban redevelopment project; the “Urban Wilds” area, developed using cutting-edge technology, is home to many wild Pokémon.
The protagonist, visiting Lumiose City for sightseeing, chooses one of three Pokémon—Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile—as their partner, and joins others in tackling the various events and challenges that unfold across the city.
♦ Challenge the “ZA Ascent Battle” After Dark
Once night falls, “Battle Zones” encircled by state-of-the-art red holographic projections appear throughout the city. The “ZA Ascent Battle” takes place here daily; from sunset to dawn, Trainers compete against one another in Pokémon battles. Participants are assigned a “Rank” ranging from Z to A, with everyone starting at Rank Z. Reaching Rank A grants the ultimate title and honor, along with the fulfillment of a single wish.
♦ A Series-First : Battles Featuring Real-Time Action for Both Pokémon and Trainers
During battle, Pokémon move alongside their Trainers and execute moves based on their commands. Beyond the traditional type-matchup mechanics, new gameplay elements—such as the timing of switching Pokémon and selecting moves, move range, and execution speed—have been added, offering an unprecedented Pokémon battle experience.
♦ Master “Mega Evolution”, the Key to This Title
In Lumiose City, one can occasionally witness “Mega Evolution”—an evolution that transcends standard evolution. Certain Pokémon are capable of Mega Evolution; by temporarily unleashing their latent power, they achieve a level of strength far beyond that of ordinary evolution. Mastering Mega Evolution is crucial to securing victory.
